FIFA announced on Wednesday that it will give the winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup $50 million in prize money.

It announced that the total prize fund will reach $655 million, making it record-breaking prize amount in the history of the tournament.

The 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams and will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. It is scheduled to start from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

The prize distribution will be as follows; the runners-up will receive $33 million, the team on the third position will get $29 million while the fourth position holder will be awarded $27 million.

In the 2022 world cup, Argentina bagged $42 million after winning the trophy. France received $30 million as runner-up.

FIFA has also claimed that teams knocked-out in group stage will receive $9 million, while all 48 participating countries will be granted an additional $1.5 million to help cover preparation and logistical costs.

The announcement shows FIFA’s growing commercial revenues and its readiness to share greater financial returns with national teams in future.
