A murder case has been filed against the husband of private news channel anchor Rabia Ahsan under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) after she was fatally shot at her residence in Rawalpindi.
Police registered the case on the complaint of the deceased's brother, Khurram, who approached Saddar Bairooni Police Station and requested the registration of a murder case.
In his statement, Khurram said his sister had informed him over the phone that Rabia Ahsan had been shot by her husband. Upon reaching the house, he found her lying in a pool of blood and confirmed that she had died.
Initial investigations revealed that Rabia had been married to Ahsan for 14 years. Her family told police that the couple had no domestic disputes and were leading a happy married life.
The couple's daughters, along with Rabia's sister and mother, also recorded their statements, saying they had never witnessed any disagreements between the husband and wife.
Meanwhile, a domestic worker told investigators that the family was sorting clothes and replacing summer garments with winter clothes when a .30-bore pistol was found among them.
Ahsan allegedly picked up the weapon and was waving it in his hand when it went off accidentally. Police said no evidence of an argument between the couple at the time of the incident had emerged so far.
The preliminary post-mortem report stated that the bullet entered the front lower part of Rabia's neck, resulting in her death. Police also found that the pistol recovered from the scene was unlicensed.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and all possible motives are being examined. Further action will be taken after the forensic laboratory reports are received.
