Punjab Ombudsperson orders probe into harassment allegations at Khawaja Fareed University

LAHORE: Punjab Ombudsperson Dr Najma Afzal has taken notice of alleged harassment and blackmailing at Khawaja Fareed University and directed the university to immediately constitute a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate the matter.

The committee will comprise three male and two female members.

An expert in information technology and digital evidence will also be included in the inquiry committee, along with a legal expert on harassment and digital evidence.

Dr Najma Afzal said the authenticity of screenshots circulating on social media would be examined as part of the investigation.

She said the individual facing the allegations would be given a full opportunity to present their position. The inquiry, she added, must ensure confidentiality, protect the dignity of all parties and preserve relevant evidence.

Dr Najma Afzal further stated that legal action would be taken if the allegations were substantiated.

She also warned that action would be taken in accordance with the law against anyone found to have fabricated material or attempted to defame another person.

The relevant inquiry committee has been directed to submit a comprehensive report within 30 days.
