Pakpattan police officer arrested for torturing woman after video goes viral

A police officer, identified as ASI Ijaz, has been arrested after a video emerged showing him physically assaulting a woman inside her home in Punjab’s Pakpattan district. The video sparked outrage on social media.

According to police, District Police Officer (DPO) Pakpattan Javed Iqbal took immediate notice of the incident and later addressed the matter in a press conference. He confirmed that ASI Ijaz had been taken into custody and assured that justice would be delivered to the victim.

The viral video showed ASI Ijaz slapping and kicking a woman inside her home while a lady police officer stands nearby.

As per reports, the ASI, posted at Farid Kot Chowki, had gone to the house to demand that the woman vacate the premises.

DPO Javed Iqbal condemned the assault, stating that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands and that officers who misuse their authority have no place in the police force.

He added that, following the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to protect women’s rights and uphold justice, swift action was taken against the accused officer.

“We will ensure the culprit faces the consequences of his actions and continues to root out such black sheep from the police force,” the DPO said.

In another video statement, the victim, who said she is a mother of two, shared that ASI Ijaz brutally assaulted her despite the presence of a lady police officer. 

She alleged that he threatened her not to report the incident or undergo a medical examination, warning that he would register a false FIR against her.

The woman further alleged that the ASI also threatened her in court, in front of a judge.
