A man accused of committing indecent acts with a minor girl in Multan was arrested in an injured condition after accidentally shooting himself while attempting to fire at police during a raid.

A video of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed the man engaging in inappropriate behaviour with a minor girl. The footage sparked widespread outrage online, with netizens demanding his immediate arrest.

A few days ago, similar incident was reported in Kasur.

In a statement, the Multan Crime Control Department (CCD) confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who sustained injuries due to mishandling his own weapon while resisting arrest.

The incident took place on July 15 within the jurisdiction of the Bahauddin Zakariya Police Station, where the suspect was captured on a street surveillance camera committing indecent acts with a minor child before fleeing the scene.

A case was registered under Section 377B of the Pakistan Penal Code (unnatural offences with minor children) and referred to the CCD for investigation.

According to the CCD, when the police raided the suspect's location following a tip-off, "the suspect opened fire in an attempt to evade arrest, but accidentally shot himself." He was immediately taken to Nishtar Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The suspect was identified through the Criminal Records Office and confirmed to be the same individual seen in the viral video.

Authorities further revealed that he has a prior criminal record and was also accused of murdering his brother in 2023. That case is registered under Section 302 (punishment for murder) at the same police station.

According to the child protection organistion, Sahil's report titled Cruel Numbers 2024, a total of 3,364 cases of child abuse were reported across Pakistan last year. The report used data collected from 81 national and regional newspapers.
