KARACHI: The federal government's ministry of commerce has allowed a four-month exemption for a financial instrument for Pakistani mango exports to Iran and through Iran’s land route to Central Asia.
This exemption was given in a notification released by the Ministry of Commerce stating that it would come into effect from June 1 to September 30, 2026. Under the decision, the stipulation of providing a financial instrument as required under the foreign exchange rules of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will not be applicable for the export of mangoes to Iran and CIS countries through Iran’s land route.
Waheed Ahmed, Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers, and Merchants Association (PFVA) welcomed this move by saying that this exemption came at a time when the ministry has provided timely relief as the export of mangoes was about to start in June.
According to Ahmed, the exemption would greatly help the exports of Pakistani mangoes to Iran and via Iran to Central Asia.
However, he said that the exports to Middle Eastern and Gulf countries were facing several problems in this season owing to regional tensions such as increased transport costs and interruptions in flights.
He added that the exemption from the financial instrument requirement for exports to Iran and through Iran would help increase Pakistani mango exports in the Iranian market, and also assist in offsetting potential shortfalls from Gulf markets.
Ahmed further said that this year, PFVA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, will organise roadshows in Central Asian states to further promote demand and exports of Pakistani mangoes in these new markets.
