Hero who stood between Lahore and enemy: Remembering Major Aziz Bhatti on Defence Day

As Pakistan observes Defence Day on September 6, the nation remembers the soldiers who stood on the front lines during the 1965 war.

Among them, Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed remains one of the most celebrated names for his extraordinary courage in defending Lahore.

Major Aziz Bhatti was serving as a company commander in the Lahore sector when Indian forces launched an offensive towards the city on September 6, 1965. Positioned near the BRB Canal, he and his troops faced intense attacks as they worked to prevent the enemy from advancing towards Lahore.

Despite heavy artillery and tank fire, Major Bhatti refused to leave his position. He remained on the front line for several days, directing his troops and encouraging them to hold their ground.

His leadership and determination became a defining part of Pakistan's defence during the war.

Major Bhatti was eventually martyred while observing and directing his troops during the battle. His sacrifice became a symbol of bravery and devotion to duty, and he was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan's highest military gallantry award.

On Defence Day, his story serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Pakistan's armed forces during the 1965 war.
