A rickshaw driver in Hafizabad has reportedly shocked onlookers by setting his own vehicle on fire following the issuance of a substantial traffic fine.
According to the driver, increasing penalties and mounting financial pressures had made it increasingly difficult for him to continue earning a livelihood.
The incident has not only attracted widespread attention in the area but has also raised broader concerns about the financial challenges faced by daily wage earners and low-income workers.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred after a traffic warden issued a fine to the driver. Shortly afterwards, he allegedly took the drastic step of setting his rickshaw ablaze.
Eyewitnesses stated that the incident drew significant public attention and highlighted concerns regarding the economic pressures experienced by members of the working class.
The driver maintained that the repeated imposition of substantial fines had become disproportionate to his income, leaving him in severe financial difficulty.
He stated that meeting day-to-day expenses was already a challenge and that the continued issuance of fines had further worsened his circumstances.
He further claimed that the growing financial burden and frequency of penalties had pushed him into a state of despair, leading him to set fire to his rickshaw as an act of protest.
Following the incident, the District Police Officer (DPO) took action by suspending the traffic warden concerned and ordering an investigation into the matter.
