ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court is set to fix a contempt case regarding the alleged non-implementation of a judicial order allowing meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan, under its new case-fixation policy.
A senior court official said the matter, related to the Islamabad High Court’s directive permitting meetings with Khan, will be scheduled according to the routine order of hearing cases.
Earlier, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja met Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and urged early hearing of cases involving Imran Khan. He later stated that the chief justice assured him these matters would be taken up after Eid.
Raja had previously filed an appeal in the Supreme Court after the Islamabad High Court dismissed his contempt petition over non-compliance with its order regarding meetings with Khan’s family and lawyers. The case is currently placed lower on the cause list, as contempt matters are being heard in sequence under the court’s policy.
The PTI continues to face delays in relief across multiple legal forums, while lawyers argue that cases involving civil liberties are not being prioritised.
The government maintains that Imran Khan is regularly meeting his wife in jail, whereas political analysts suggest restrictions may ease depending on the nature of his interactions and statements.
