A court in Karachi on Tuesday handed over two suspects to police on two-day physical remand in the DHA assault case.
The police produced the suspects, Ibrahim Malik and Waqar, before the judicial magistrate and sought an extension in their police remand for further investigation.
Allowing the investigating officer's plea, the magistrate handed over the suspects to the police on two-day physical remand.
A third suspect, Irtiza Alvi, has already obtained pre-arrest bail from the sessions court, while fourth suspect Ibrahim Malik is absconding in this case.
The first information report (FIR) was registered at the Sahil police station on the complaint of victim Syed Ali Jafri, who said that the incident took place on the night of Aug 29.
In his complaint, Jafri said he initially remained silent because he was frightened, but decided to approach police after the suspects allegedly shared a video of the incident on social media. According to the FIR, Jafri and a friend had gone to an e-gaming facility in Bukhari Commercial.
Jafri said he had never met the man before. The three later went to a nearby cafe and were confronted by a vehicle as they were leaving. The FIR said a man got out of the vehicle and, according to Jafri, was another acquaintance of his friend. He allegedly hit Jafri on the neck with a baseball bat.
Jafri further alleged that the acquaintance who had joined them earlier, along with “three unknown persons”, pushed him into the vehicle and took him to an empty plot at Sahil Avenue in Phase 8. He told police that he was then beaten on his legs with the baseball bat and had his hair pulled out.
