Xiaomi 18 Fold arrives just two days before Apple unveils its first foldable

Wide foldable cellphones have been becoming increasingly popular with the arrival of the upcoming iPhone Ultra from Apple and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 from Samsung. 

Additionally, HUAWEI has also become successful with its wide foldables while Xiaomi is now preparing for the unveiling of its new wide foldable handset next week – the Xiaomi 18 Fold.

The Xiaomi mobile division's president, Mr. Lu Weibing, shared the official pictures of the Xiaomi 18 Fold on Weibo and announced its launch in China on September 7, 2026.

Xiaomi's event is scheduled for September 7, two days before Apple's event, which is to take place on September 9, 2027, when the launch of the foldable iPhone Ultra is expected.

Although the Xiaomi handset looks similar, it will be technically released before the Apple one because it is already Xiaomi's second foldable, while it will be Apple's first.

Some specs of the new Xiaomi foldable have been provided. It is called the mid-fold device, meaning it will have both features of book and flip foldables, being placed somewhere in between.

This foldable will have a 5.38 inches external display and a 7.58 inches internal display. The phone comes in a bold red color, and its rear camera island stands out with three cameras, which is two more than most wide folding phones currently available or coming soon.

It remains uncertain whether Xiaomi will launch the 18 Fold in international markets, but if it does make its way to global markets, it is expected to carry a premium price tag.
