Internet users across Pakistan faced slow browsing speed on Saturday after submarine cables were damaged in Saudi waters near Jeddah, according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).
In a statement on social media, the company said that one of the undersea cables had been cut near Jeddah, causing partial disruption to the system.
The incident has reduced bandwidth capacity on two major international submarine cable routes — SMW4 and IMEWE — which serve as key links between Pakistan and global networks.
As a result, users in the country may experience slower connectivity, particularly during peak usage hours.
The spokesperson said international partners were working to repair the fault on a priority basis, while local teams were arranging alternate bandwidth to minimize the impact.
“We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this time,” the statement added.
