The National Disaster Management Authority on Tuesday warned that the expected heavy rains in Karachi, Hyderabad and other districts of Sindh may cause urban flooding.

According to the government department, Sindh would witness ‘above-than-normal’ rain during the ongoing monsoon system.

NDMA said Karachi, Kashmore, Hyderabad, Thatta, Umarkot, Badin, Mithi, Tharparkar, and surrounding areas are likely to receive heavy rainfall within the next 12 to 24 hours.

The heavy and scattered rain during the season could result in urban flooding.

In light of expected downpours, the authority directed the provincial administrations to closely monitor the situation and take prior steps to address post-rain problems.

The Pakistan Meteorologist Department (PMD) predicted light rain in Karachi on Tuesday, while outskirt areas are expected to witness heavy downpours and thunderstorms.

“More monsoon currents are likely to penetrate from the Arabian Sea in upper parts of the country from July 10,” stated the latest forecast.

However, the weather will remain hot and humid in the port city during the next 24 hours.

The Met office said that the minimum temperature recorded at 30°C in the megalopolis during the 24 hours.

"The maximum temperature will hover between 35°C-37°C," it said, adding that the humidity level in the air is 75%.
