First Lady Aseefa calls for thorough probe into Hina Javed’s murder

First Lady Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari has called for swift and comprehensive probe in the murder case of Hina Javed, whose body was discovered at her Rawalpindi residence this week.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Aseefa expressed concern over the killing and urged the Punjab authorities to establish the facts through a thorough investigation. She said anyone found responsible should face justice and that such cases must serve as a deterrent against violence towards women.

Police found Javed’s body in the bathroom of her apartment in Askari Apartments, Lal Kurti, on Thursday. Investigators said she appeared to have been tortured and had a wire around her neck attached to the shower rod.

An initial postmortem examination found a strangulation mark, an injury below her lip and bleeding.

Javed’s brother, Fahid, reported the case to Civil Lines police, alleging that his sister had been killed by her husband, her father-in-law and a domestic servant. He also alleged that she had suffered severe mistreatment and may have been poisoned before her death.
