Sindh govt to buy 500 electric buses as 50 double-deckers to arrive in November

The Sindh Transport and Mass Transit Department has moved a proposal to the provincial cabinet for the purchase of 500 electric buses.

Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the buses would be introduced in different cities after the cabinet approved the proposal.

He said the provincial government is working to expand public transport beyond Karachi. The People’s Bus Service is also being extended to more areas to provide people with affordable and improved transport facilities, he added.

Memon said 50 double-decker buses are expected to arrive in Sindh by November 30. The buses would be placed on different routes and increase the number of passengers that could be accommodated.

He said the People’s Bus Service had received a positive response after its launch in Qambar Shahdadkot. People in Larkana, Qambar, Shahdadkot and surrounding areas are also appreciating the new bus service.

The minister said the electric bus project would add to Sindh’s public transport network. He added that the buses would also help meet the increasing transport needs of people in urban areas.
