A police officer was shot dead in an apparent case of mistaken identity in Sindh's Shikarpur district after another policeman allegedly opened fire on his vehicle, officials said.
According to police, Station House Officer (SHO) Ali Hassan, posted at Lakhi Ghulam Shah police station, was travelling in his newly purchased private car when the incident occurred. The vehicle reportedly did not have a number plate, leading personnel from the police to suspect it.
Police said the officers opened fire on the car, resulting in the death of SHO Ali Hassan.
The constable involved in the firing has been taken into custody, while Sindh police chief has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the DIG Larkana.
An investigation is under way to determine the exact circumstances that led to the shooting.
