A judicial magistrate in Karachi on Wednesday extended the physical remand of a suspected serial paedophile for questioning for three more days.
The investigating officer (IO) produced the suspect, Shabbir Tanoli, before the court on completion of his remand. He has been nominated in seven separate cases of sexually assaulting minors.
As he was brought into the courtroom, some of the victims confronted him and slapped him on the court premises.
The IO requested an extension in the suspect’s physical remand, which the court approved, granting investigators three more days to continue their probe. The magistrate also directed police to submit a progress report at the next hearing.

Earlier, police had told the court that Tanoli was arrested following complaints from residents of the area. According to investigators, since 2016 the suspect had allegedly been assaulting children, including girls, and recording videos of the abuse.
The cases against him have been registered at the Defence police station.
Meanwhile, when journalists questioned Tanoli outside the court about what he did with the videos, the accused admitted that he would later watch them himself.
