Once considered the 'brave kid' by Asif Ali Zardari, the controversial former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Malir, Rao Anwaat, has levelled grave accusations against the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and its co-chairperson, alleging widespread corruption and functioning a mafia system in Karachi.

Rao made these startling revelations during an appearance on a private TV channel, where he disclosed details implicating the ruling party of the Sindh province for the prevailing lawlessness in Karachi.

Accusing the Sindh government of alleged money laundering amounting to Rs700 billion from 2018 to 2023, Rao declared, "In the last five years, 700 billion rupees have been laundered outside Pakistan."

Furthermore, he highlighted the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), “which allegedly uncovered the fake bank accounts in the names of fruit vendors to settle bills for meals and cakes at Bilawal House.”

Additionally, he placed the blame on the Sindh government for the rising crime rates in Karachi, attributing it to their "lenient policy." He asserted that, "instead of addressing and curbing crimes in Karachi and interior Sindh, they were preoccupied with other pursuits.”

Continuing his criticism of the PPP’s Sindh government, under whose regime he wielded significant influence in the police department, Rao disclosed additional information about his institution, which he claims has been allegedly involved in "illicit activities" in the metropolis since 2013.

He accused politicians of exploiting the police department for land grabbing, manipulating government records, and handpicking government officers based on their preferences.

He also accused Owais Muzaffar Tappi, foster brother of Asif Ali Zardari, of using the CM House, in activities related to land grabbing and other illicit practices.

Rao Anwae also said that the government's decision to initiate a Rangers operation in Karachi ultimately backfired, leading to the apprehension of their own close associates during the operation, including Dr Asim and others.

Rao, a divisive figure in the Karachi police force, retired in 2019 under a cloud of serious charges, including extrajudicial killings and corruption. He was accused of staged encounters, involvement in illicit activities, and orchestrating the murder of aspiring model Naqeebullah Mehsud. Despite these accusations, an anti-terrorism court later acquitted the former SSP.
