The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Thursday decided to hold intra-party elections on March 3 (Sunday) in order to fulfil the requirement of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to retain its iconic party symbol 'Bat'.

According to the schedule announced by the former ruling party, members would be able to submit nomination papers by Feb 23 and 24.

Following the nomination process, the scrutiny of the paper will be completed by Feb 25 and the final candidates will be announced on Feb 27.

Last year, the Supreme Court deprived PTI of its election symbol by upholding the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) order barring the party from keeping its bat symbol for the February 8 elections.

However, PTI candidates took part in elections as independent candidates and managed to secure 92 National Assembly seats.

Earlier, Imran Khan's party had decided to conduct intra-party polls on Feb 5, just three days before the general elections, but later postponed its decision.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwar said the intra-party polls are being held to make party dynamics functional.

He urged the party workers and supporters to take part in the internal elections.
