Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's guard was indicted on Wednesday for spitting on a woman in London.

The Crown Prosecution Service of the United Kingdom (UK) pressed charges of common assault against Nawaz Sharif's security guard.

The woman, identified as Panzai Cheema, lodged a complaint against the accused after he allegedly behaved inappropriately towards her in September of last year.

A video capturing the incident went viral, depicting Sharif's guard engaging in misconduct towards the woman in London.

Journalists, who had gathered outside Nawaz Sharif's residence in London upon the arrival of his brother Shehbaz Sharif, voiced their concerns about the incident. However, Sharif departed from the scene, stating that he would address the matter.

In the meantime, the guard's legal representative asserted that the defense team would demonstrate in court that he did not violate any laws by his actions towards the woman.

After a self-imposed exile of four years in London, Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan on October 21, 2023.

Arriving in Lahore from Islamabad, Sharif reached the historic Minar-e-Pakistan monument via helicopter to participate in a grand rally organized by the PML-N to welcome the former premier.
