Majority of PTI leaders propose delaying long march, report says

PESHAWAR: A majority of members at a meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership proposed postponing the party’s long march, according to media reports.

PTI leaders including Barrister Gohar, Sohail Afridi, Asad Qaiser, Salman Akram Raja and Junaid Akbar attended the meeting.

A majority of participants reportedly suggested postponing the long march until October 5–10. The meeting also described the government’s decision to block routes as a sign of “panic,” according to the report.

The meeting reportedly termed the closure of roads and Islamabad a sign of the movement’s success.

The meeting was told that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had not yet spoken openly on the matter and was waiting for PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to return to Pakistan.

The PTI leadership meeting also proposed convening an All-Parties Conference (APC) between October 6 and 10. The performance of the party’s Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan chapters was also reviewed during the meeting.

Participants also discussed the possible transfer of PTI founder Imran Khan to a hospital and concessions for Bushra Bibi.

The meeting further proposed accelerating contacts with all opposition parties as part of the party’s political strategy.
