Kohat Police Lines blast: Death toll rises to 21, over 100 injured

Death toll in Kohat Police Line blast has jumped to 21, while 103 sustained injuries, officials said on Friday.

As per details, explosion targeted a mosque inside the Kohat Police Lines during Friday prayers.

Kohat Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Tahir Shah said the deceased included 15 police personnel and six civilians. Among those killed was Dr Israel Khan Orakzai, Chief District Specialist at Liaquat Memorial Hospital.

According to hospital officials, 73 police personnel and 30 civilians were among those injured. Of the total injured, 90 were shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, while 13 were taken to Liaquat Memorial Hospital.

Dr Shah said 34 injured people were still receiving treatment, while four critically injured patients had been referred to hospitals in Peshawar for further medical care.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hamid told Geo News that an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the gate of the old Police Lines shortly before the blasts.

The attack, which took place during Friday prayers, drew condemnation from the country's top leadership.

President Zardari, PM S expressed grief over the injuries and directed authorities to ensure immediate and the best possible medical treatment for those affected.

The president said the complete elimination of Fitna al-Khawarij and terrorists was essential for national security.
