The MQM-P heavily criticized the PPP-led Sindh government after the tragic Gul Plaza incident. They urged the federal government to step in and appoint a judicial commission to investigate into administrative and security failures in the province, especially in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Dr Farooq Sattar described Sindh’s governance as “oppressive and feudal.” He stated that Karachi has been deprived of its constitutional and administrative rights. Moreover, the party pressed on its demand for a judicial inquiry into the horrific Gul Plaza incident, arguing that systemic failures should be independently examined.

Dr. Sattar also expressed concern over the abrupt withdrawal of security from MQM-P leaders, a claim denied by Sindh home minister Zia-ul-Hassan, who called the blame “baseless” and claimed that no security personnel had been removed.

Furthermore, the MQM-P called for accountability from CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah and mayor Murtaza Wahab, and called out PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto to consider Article 140-A, which directs decentralization to local governments.

Sattar, however, warned that continued neglect of Karachi’s issues could further destabilise the city and claimed that serious, practical actions are needed for the city to thrive.
