Karachi remained in the grip of hot and humid weather on Thursday, with the city's temperature reaching 38 degrees Celsius, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The Met Office said the humidity level in the city was recorded at 54%, contributing to a significant increase in the perceived temperature.
Due to the combination of high temperatures and moisture in the air, the heat index — or "feels-like" temperature — was estimated to be as high as 51 degrees Celsius, making outdoor conditions particularly uncomfortable.
The PMD also reported that sea breezes were blowing at a speed of 19 kilometres per hour. Despite the presence of these winds, humidity levels remained elevated, intensifying the impact of the heat.
Meteorologists advise residents to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours, stay hydrated and take precautionary measures to prevent heat-related illnesses.
