Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab praised his team's efforts in clearing the city's thoroughfares after Tuesday's torrential rains had brought the metropolis to a standstill.

Taking to X, Wahab shared a video showing the improved state of major roads, crediting the relentless work of his team for clearing the rainwater.

The mayor specifically mentioned the municipal and sanitation teams, civil administration, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), Solid Waste Management, traffic police, city wardens, and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

In his post, Wahab stated he would not be "deterred by criticism" and would continue to serve the people of Karachi "with passion."

“Karachi. My compliments to the entire Karachi team who have worked very hard over the last few days whether it was the municipal team or sanitation, civil administration, KWSC, Solid Waste, traffic police & city wardens, PDMA. Proud of the efforts that all of you have put in to serve our city. Don’t be deterred by biased or unfair criticism and continue to serve the people with passion,” his post read on X.

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday addressed a press conference to discuss the city’s condition amid the ongoing spell of heavy rains. He compared the situation in Karachi to that of other major metropolitan cities, including New York, Dubai, and Mumbai.

Wahab noted that while it is easy to criticise the government, people must acknowledge the harsh reality of how climate change has wreaked havoc across the country.

“We can talk about New York, Dubai, or Mumbai, but the fact is that we are dealing with extraordinary circumstances. As a developing country, we face serious challenges. We have witnessed how rains devastated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. We are left with only two options, either adapt to these climate changes by shifting our approach towards such weather patterns or merely continue to criticise,” he said.

Earlier, he stated that the city's current drainage system can handle up to 40 millimeters of rain, while the recent downpour saw the city receive as much as 170 millimeters.
