While identifying the interference in judicial affairs, Islamabad High Court judge (IHC) Justice Babar Sattar revealed on Tuesday that he was told to step back from the audio leak case.

Justice Sattar has written another letter to Chief Justice IHC Amir Farooq that he has received a message from top officials of the establishment that directed him to back off from scrutinising the way of surveillance.

“I did not pay attention to such threatening tactics,” he said in a letter.

“I don’t think that such messages could harm the justice system,” the judge added.

“The focus of the smear campaign on cases related to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) seems to be an intimidation tactic to influence judicial proceedings.”

He reminded in the letter that the court issued the notification to intelligence agencies, concerned authorities, regulatory bodies, Inter-Services Intelligent (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan Telecommunication (PTA), and Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA) in audio leaks case.

On May 6, he wrote to CJ  Amir Farooq that he was being targeted in a social media campaign.
