Prominent Saudi religious scholar Sheikh Assim al-Hakeem stated that the Holy Quran forbids rebellion against an oppressive ruler.
A user on X from Pakistan asked the scholar, “300 people have been killed,” while thousands have been arrested in the country for protesting against what they described as oppression.
In response, Sheikh Assim al-Hakeem rejected the idea of resistance against the government, even if it exhibits cruelty toward its citizens.
“It is not permissible to rebel against a tyrant leader or to protest or demonstrate!” he said.
He emphasised that Muslims often overlook the teachings of the Holy Quran, which, according to him, discourage resistance movements against rulers.
“The people are not interested in what the Quran or the Sunnah say. They want to follow their whims and desires, even if it burns the whole country!” his post read.
Saudi scholar Assim Al-Hakeem is known for his online interactions with social media users, answering their questions about religion.
