ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the government is shifting its focus toward health, education, skills development and social protection after making progress on economic stability.

He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the World Bank led by Mamta Murthi, according to the finance ministry.

Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan’s young population as a key asset and stressed the need to equip youth with modern skills. He said investment in human capital is vital for sustainable growth, improved competitiveness and better employment prospects.

The minister also appreciated the World Bank’s support for Pakistan’s reform and development agenda, noting that preparing young people for changing global market demands remains a government priority.

Discussions focused on health, nutrition, education and population challenges, as well as the use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies to improve service delivery. The World Bank reaffirmed its support and shared international experience in vocational training, skills development and employment-oriented programmes.

Discussions highlighted the importance of stronger industry linkages and greater private sector participation in training initiatives. Murthi invited Pakistan to participate in the Universal Health Coverage global forum to be held in Japan later this year.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in health, education, social protection, workforce development and technology-driven service delivery.
