Gujranwala: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a gang accused of trafficking Pakistani citizens to Cambodia and selling them to criminal networks.
According to the FIA’s Deputy Director, the group consisted of six members, two of whom were based in Cambodia.
The official said four suspects operating from Pakistan lured young people by advertising call centre jobs in Cambodia on social media.
Unsuspecting jobseekers would respond to the advertisements and come into contact with the suspects.
Authorities said the gang specifically targeted educated individuals with computer skills. Once in Cambodia, the suspects allegedly charged around $2,000 per person.
FIA officials said the victims were held captive and forced to carry out online scamming activities. Those who refused to work were reportedly subjected to physical abuse.
The agency said the group had sent more than 100 Pakistanis to Cambodia so far.
