Federal govt okays Rangers deployment in Islamabad, several Punjab districts

The federal government on Thursday gave the go-ahead to the deployment of Rangers in Islamabad and several districts of Punjab to assist police in maintaining law and order and security.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, the deployment was approved following requests from the Islamabad chief commissioner and the Punjab government.

The notification authorises Rangers personnel to provide assistance under their legal powers and directs Rangers and police to take appropriate and necessary action in response to attacks by violent and armed groups.

It further directs Rangers and police to take all necessary measures to deal with any violent activity or security threat.

Rangers personnel will perform all necessary duties to assist in maintaining law and order and ensuring security, according to the notification.
