CPPA seeks Rs1.73 per unit hike in electricity tariff

ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers may face an increase of Rs1.73 per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment for August.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a Rs1.73 per unit increase. NEPRA is scheduled to hear the request on September 29.

If approved, the proposed adjustment would add around Rs29.5 billion to consumers’ electricity bills and would also apply to K-Electric customers.

According to the CPPA, distribution companies received 14.464 billion units of electricity in August, with the average cost of supplied electricity recorded at Rs8.82 per unit.

Hydropower contributed 37.84% of the total generation, while local coal accounted for 10.88% and imported coal for 15.59%.

Furnace oil generated 2.15% of the electricity, while local gas contributed 7.04% and imported LNG accounted for 8.48%.

The CPPA based its request on the electricity generation and fuel costs recorded during August.
