Contempt petition filed against PTI's Junaid Akbar over 'violation' of IHC order

ISLAMABAD: The controversial statement by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Junaid Akbar has reached the Islamabad High Court, with an Islamabad-based trader filing a contempt of court petition against him.

The petitioner, Waqas Ahmed, filed the petition through his lawyer, Akhtar Chheena, alleging that Junaid Akbar’s statement encouraged and incited people to travel to Islamabad, which the petitioner claims amounts to a violation of the Islamabad High Court’s September 14 order.

According to the petition, the PTI leader’s remarks constitute an alleged open violation of the court’s decision.

The petitioner has urged the court to initiate contempt proceedings against Junaid Akbar.

In support of his plea, the petitioner also referred to a Supreme Court judgment in which former senator Nihal Hashmi was sentenced to one month in prison and fined Rs50,000 in a contempt of court case.

The allegations contained in the petition are subject to determination by the court.
