Chief justice’s pension rises from Rs560,000 in 2010 to Rs 2.39 million in 2024: Ministry

The Ministry of Law and Justice submitted a detailed report to the Senate outlining the pension and post-retirement benefits of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

The figures revealed a substantial increase in monetary benefits between 2010 and 2024.

According to the ministry’s written reply, the Chief Justice currently receives a monthly pension of Rs2.39 million (as of 2024).

In addition, the widow of a judge is entitled to 2,000 units of free electricity, complimentary water supply, 300 liters of petrol per month, along with the services of a driver and a cleaner.

The data showed that in 2010, the Chief Justice’s monthly pension stood at Rs 560,000, rising to Rs644,000 in 2011 and Rs 773,000 in 2012.

In the following years, the amount increased to Rs 850,000 in 2013, Rs 935,000 in 2014, and Rs 1,005,000 in 2015.

In 2016, the pension reached Rs 1,105,000, followed by Rs 1,217,000 in 2017, Rs 1,338,000 in 2018, Rs 1,452,000 in 2021, Rs 1,657,000 in 2023, and finally Rs 2,390,000 in 2024.

In 2024, the perks and privileges of Supreme Court judges were significantly increased. The monthly house rent allowance was raised from Rs68,000 to Rs350,000, and their supreme judicial allowance was also increased from Rs428,040 to Rs1,161,163.

Similarly, High Court judges also received a substantial increase in their allowances. Their house rent allowance was hiked from Rs65,000 to Rs350,000, and their judicial allowance was raised from Rs342,431 to Rs1,090,434.
