Karachi witnessed a surge in incidence of street crimes throughout the year 2023 with over 27,500 mobile phones snatched and more than 58,500 motorcycles, worth billions of rupees, snatched or stolen.

Even the caretaker government fell short of meeting citizens' expectations, as this year saw more than 27,500 mobile phones being snatched from citizens at gunpoint.

The city experienced a rate of 70 mobile phones being snatched daily, translating to 3 every hour and one every 18 minutes at gunpoint.

Over 58,500 motorcycles worth billions of rupees were stolen and snatched from citizens. The daily incidence of motorcycle theft surpassed 162, with an average of 6 motorcycles stolen or snatched every hour in the city.

Compared to the previous year, 261 vehicle theft incidents were reported this year, marking a notable increase from the 162 incidents reported last year.

The data reveals a record-breaking 55% surge in motorcycle thefts and a substantial 62% rise in vehicle thefts this year.
