Motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws registered after January 1, 2006, will now be eligible for the government’s fuel relief scheme, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

In a statement, it said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives to include the vehicles in the registration process for the Fuel Relief Scheme. "All motorcycles, rickshaws, and Qingqi registered after January 1, 2006, will be eligible for registration in the Prime Minister Fuel Relief Scheme," read the statement.

It added: “Now, those who drive 20-year-old motorcycles, rickshaws, and Qingqis will also be able to benefit from the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme.”

PM Shehbaz had announced the scheme on September 13 to provide financial relief to users of motorcycles, rickshaws and small cars amid rising international oil prices. Under the programme, eligible users will receive Rs100 per litre in fuel relief.

Motorcycle, rickshaw, Qingqi and other two- and three-wheeler owners will be eligible for the subsidy on up to 20 litres of petrol each month.

Owners of vehicles with engines of up to 800cc will receive the same Rs100-per-litre relief on a monthly quota of 30 litres.
