15,000 teachers, other staff seek early retirement as facial recognition attendance planned in Sindh

The Sindh education department has decided to introduce a facial recognition-based attendance system in government schools across the province as part of measures aimed at improving transparency and accountability.

According to official sources, the department also plans to take action against absent employees and those found to be holding allegedly fake academic degrees.

Citing sources, media reports said that the department has received thousands of applications for early retirement, creating administrative and financial challenges for the finance division.

They added that around 15,000 teaching and non-teaching staff have applied for pre-retirement.

Meanwhile, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has begun scrutinising the academic credentials of employees recruited in the Sindh Education Department between 1989 and 2020 as part of an ongoing verification process.
