The cost of purchasing electricity in Pakistan could rise to Rs27.309 per kilowatt-hour (unit) in 2027, according to estimates from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA).

Under its base-case projections for the next tariff review, the agency forecasts a total power purchase cost of Rs3.55 trillion.

The estimates are part of the process of revising tariffs for consumers of the former Wapda distribution companies (Discos). The revised rates are expected to take effect on 1 January 2027.

As part of the process, a revised reference cost will be determined for the new tariff period. Consumer tariffs will then be set on the basis of that figure.
