The 81st Golden Globe Awards 2024 took place in Los Angeles, where 'Oppenheimer,' 'Succession,' and 'Poor Things' emerged as the night's biggest winners. The ceremony was a star-studded affair, with Hollywood A-listers Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone, Kieran Culkin and Margot Robbie taking home coveted trophies.

With five wins, including the top prize, 'Oppenheimer' swept the Golden Globes.

‘Oppenheimer’ stars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr received accolades for their performances, and Christopher Nolan secured the Best Director award.

The movie achieved significant commercial success, grossing $954 million (£750 million) and securing the Best Drama Film accolade.

Murphy, renowned for his role in 'Peaky Blinders,' portrayed J Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist known as the architect of the atomic bomb. The biopic also won awards for best score and best supporting actor for Downey Jr, who portrayed US government official Lewis Strauss.

‘Barbie’ took home the Box Office Achievement Award with its $1.4 billion global box office success. The award category was introduced this year to recognise the highest-grossing movies.

‘Succession’ dominated the TV awards with the highest number of victories after its fourth and final season. The acclaimed drama, revolving around a media tycoon and his children vying for control of his empire, emerged as the standout winner in the TV categories.

Kieran Culkin, recognised for his portrayal of 'Roman Roy,' received the Best Leading TV Actor award, a distinction previously earned by his co-stars Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong. His co-star, Sarah Snook was honoured as the Best Leading TV Actress.

The critically acclaimed series also secured the top prize of Best Drama Series, considered as the most prestigious award of the ceremony.

'Anatomy of a Fall,' 'The Holdovers', and 'Poor Things' each secured two victories, and Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon earned one. Lily Gladstone, the star of 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' received the Best Drama Actress award, marking her as the first indigenous person to achieve this honour.

In 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' Gladstone portrays Mollie Burkhart, an Osage woman whose family faces brutal murders orchestrated by white settlers scheming to seize their land and fortune, driven by greed for oil.

Emma Stone earned the title of Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role in 'Poor Things.' The film also claimed the honour of Best Musical or Comedy Film.

In 'Poor Things', Stone portrays Bella Baxter, a young woman embarking on a voyage of self-discovery as she travels the globe.

Among other TV category winners are Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, both acknowledged for their roles in Beef, along with Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri from The Bear.
