Pakistan has reported two more cases of polio, bringing the total number of children affected by the virus to 52 this year. The new cases were confirmed in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where both victims, a girl and a boy, were crippled by the disease.

The two children were from Tehsil Darazanda in DI Khan, which has now become a focal point in the battle against the polio virus.

Following these new cases, the number of polio affected children in KP has risen to 13. The province is among the areas hardest hit by the virus, with an increase in cases reported over the past months.

Balochistan remains the most severely impacted region, with 24 children having been paralyzed by polio. Sindh follows with 13 reported cases, while one case has been confirmed each in Punjab and Islamabad.

Officials continue to emphasise the urgency of vaccination campaigns, as they warn that polio remains an crucial public health challenge in Pakistan, which is one of the last countries in the world where the disease persists.

Health authorities are urging parents to ensure that their children receive the polio vaccine to help curb the spread of this debilitating disease.
