PESHAWAR – The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC) has brought a historic honor to Pakistan by setting a new world record on August 14, performing 14 Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) surgeries in a single day.

According to spokesperson Riffat Anjum, the feat was achieved in celebration of Pakistan’s Independence Day, breaking the previous record of 13 surgeries in one day held by a hospital in Serbia.

Medical Director Dr. Ali Raza said replacing heart valves in 14 patients without opening the chest was a formidable challenge, but the TAVI procedure ensured success in cases where open-heart surgery was not possible.

Head of the Cardiology Department, Dr. Abidullah, noted that patients aged 70 to 80 were given a new lease on life through this advanced treatment.
