An outbreak of norovirus has been reported aboard the Caribbean Princess cruise ship during its transatlantic voyage, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The outbreak was reported to the CDC on May 7 and involved the ship’s April 28 to May 11 voyage departing from Port Everglades.
According to the CDC, 102 of the ship’s 3,116 passengers — around 3.3 percent — reported illness, along with 13 of 1,131 crew members, representing about 1.2 percent.
The predominant symptoms reported were diarrhea and vomiting, commonly associated with norovirus infections.
In a statement, Princess Cruises said it had “quickly disinfected every area of the ship and added extra sanitizing throughout the voyage.”
The company added that the Caribbean Princess will undergo comprehensive cleaning upon arrival at Port Canaveral on May 11 before departing on its next voyage.
