A man in his 50s has been arrested in Spain for allegedly setting fire to a café after staff refused to add mayonnaise to his sandwich.
The incident, which took place in the town of Los Palacios y Villafranca in Seville Province, was captured on CCTV. Footage shows the man pouring gasoline inside the café before igniting it, forcing customers, including children and elderly patrons, to flee.
The suspect’s left hand also caught fire, and he was seen running outside trying to put out the flames with his other hand.
According to local reports, the man repeatedly asked staff for mayonnaise, but was told the café only served pre-made sandwiches and had no kitchen facilities.

Lo hizo, según las primeras investigaciones, porque los camareros le dijeron que no tenían mayonesa para su montadito

After being refused, he went to a nearby fuel station, purchased about 1.5 liters of gasoline, returned, and set the establishment ablaze.
The owner, José Antonio Caballero, said damages are estimated at €8,000–€9,000. “He asked several times, and when we explained we didn’t have mayonnaise, he left, came back with a bottle, and before anyone could react, lit the fire,” Caballero told local media.
No one was injured apart from the suspect, who sustained burns to his hand.
Police detained him at the scene and took him to a medical facility for treatment. He is expected to appear before a judge in the coming days.
