Mother shocked by claims of Naveed’s involvement in Bondi Beach attack
According to Australian media reports, both Naveed and Sajid were Australian citizens. Sajid arrived in Australia in 1989 on a student visa and later secured a partner visa in 2001. Since then, he has held permanent residency. Authorities also confirmed that Sajid’s son, Naveed, was an Australian citizen who was born and raised in Australia.
Naveed’s mother, Verena, told officials that both father and son informed her they were planning a fishing trip to the South Coast. However, they instead traveled to Jervis Bay for the weekend. She said the last time she spoke to them was on Sunday morning.
Verena further stated that Naveed was an unemployed bricklayer who had been laid off two months earlier. She described him as someone who rarely socialized and had very few friends. Reports also noted that Naveed had been a bright student at the Al-Murad Institute in Heckenberg.
Expressing shock, Verena said she could not imagine her son being involved in any extremist or terrorist activity, adding, “He doesn’t have a firearm.”
