Israel has allowed foreign countries to drop humanitarian aid into Gaza starting on Friday.

"Starting today, Israel will allow foreign countries to parachute aid into Gaza," Sky News reported, quoting a senior IDF official.

The development comes amid mounting international concern over the deepening humanitarian crisis in the besieged Palestinian territory.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 100 people have died from starvation since Israel imposed a full blockade on the enclave in March.

Although Israel eased the blockade in May, it continues to impose restrictions it says are necessary to prevent aid supplies from falling into the hands of Hamas, the militant group with which it has been at war since October 2023.

In early July, the United Nations children's agency UNICEF reported treating around 5,000 children in Gaza suffering from acute malnutrition.

Humanitarian organisations have repeatedly warned of widespread hunger and deteriorating health conditions, particularly among children.
