Indian analysts and social media users expressed outrage over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued silence on the military losses inflicted by Pakistan, and his failure to refute US President Donald Trump’s recent claims.

The backlash followed Trump’s statement confirming that up to five Indian jets were shot down by Pakistan during the latest military confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

While addressing Republican members of Congress at the White House on Friday, President Trump said, "In fact, planes were being shot out of the air. Five, five, four or five, but I think five jets were shot down actually."

The Indian government has neither responded to Trump's remarks nor it has officially claimed to have shot down any Pakistani jets during the conflict.

Previously, Modi had claimed that he had made it clear to President Trump that the United States played no role in brokering the caesefire between Pakistan and India. However, Trump's recent remarks contradict that assertion.

Despite Modi’s statement, President Trump reiterated that the ceasefire agreement was brokered through his direct intervention with both nations. He also went a step further by confirming that Indian military losses occurred, lending further credibility to Pakistan’s version of events.

The Indian public is now demanding accountability and clarity, with calls growing louder for the prime minister to address the issue openly and respond to Trump’s remarks.
