A female doctor in India's Maharashtra committed suicide at a government hospital allegedly after being raped four times in five months by a police sub-inspector.
According to Indian media reports, the victim wrote a note on her left palm, identifying Sub-Inspector Gopal Badne as responsible for physical and mental abuse that she said drove her to take her own life.
She also alleged harassment by Prashant Bankar, the son of her landlady. The note reportedly stated: “Police inspector Gopal Badne is the reason I died. He raped me four times. He subjected me to rape, mental and physical abuse for more than five months.”

The doctor, who served as a medical officer at the Phaltan sub-district hospital, had previously raised similar allegations in a letter to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the Sub-Divisional Office, Phaltan, on June 19. In that correspondence, she accused two officers of the Phaltan Rural Police Department of harassment and requested legal action against them.
