WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said that if he does not win the Nobel Peace Prize tomorrow, it would be an “insult” to the United States.

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner will be announced on Friday. Each year’s nominations close on January 31, with this year’s shortlist reportedly including 338 candidates.

Trump has long expressed his desire to win the prize, often mocking the Norwegian committee’s 2009 decision to award it to former US President Barack Obama.

The president has repeatedly claimed that his diplomatic achievements and peace efforts make him a deserving candidate.

Since taking office in January, Trump has asserted that he has “ended at least seven wars,” arguing that this record alone should secure him the coveted honor. However, he has also said he believes the Nobel Committee will never award him the prize “no matter what.”

According to reports, Trump has received multiple nominations this year. On June 20, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said his government would recommend Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his “decisive diplomatic intervention” during the recent India-Pakistan crisis — a claim India has not endorsed.

A U.S. Republican congressman later nominated Trump for his “role” in the Iran-Israel ceasefire following joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran in June.

In July, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had also nominated Trump, while Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed support for Trump receiving the prize during an August White House event.

In August, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced he had submitted a formal nomination for Trump, citing his mediation efforts in the Thai-Cambodian border ceasefire. His proposal was endorsed by thousands of Cambodian Buddhist monks who held a peace march in support.

The Nobel Committee — comprising five members appointed by Norway’s parliament — will announce the 2025 laureate at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo on Friday.
