Former BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh’s Domariyaganj, Raghvendra Pratap Singh, has drawn widespread criticism after a video surfaced showing him telling a crowd that Hindu youths who “bring” Muslim girls would be rewarded with jobs.
The remarks, condemned as an open call for abduction and forced conversion, went viral on social media. Singh, known for his history of making inflammatory statements against Muslims, was heard saying, “The Hindu boy who brings a Muslim girl, we will arrange a job for him.”
According to local reports, the comment was met with applause from sections of the audience.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Sanjay Singh denounced the statement, calling it “a direct incitement to criminality,” and demanded immediate police action. In a post on X, he said, “If a leader publicly encourages abduction and forced conversion, the law must act. We cannot allow selective enforcement where Muslims are charged on weak grounds while Hindu leaders are spared for inciting hate. Arrest him now or stop claiming equality before law.”
Sanjay Singh further questioned the moral and social impact of such rhetoric, asking, “What kind of parent would want their son glorified for abducting a girl? Is this what we want Hinduism to represent, coercion and crime?” He urged authorities and civil society to treat the matter as both a public-order and hate-crime issue.
Legal experts and human rights advocates noted that, if verified, such remarks could lead to charges including abduction, criminal intimidation, hate speech, and attempts to force religious conversion.
They called on the local administration to register an FIR and ensure protection for potential victims.
The controversy arose amid ongoing opposition claims that Uttar Pradesh’s law enforcement agencies selectively apply the law against Muslims while overlooking incendiary statements from Hindutva leaders.
