South Africa clinched a dramatic victory over India in the Kolkata Test, overcoming the hosts after a nerve-shredding final session to secure their first Test win on Indian soil in 15 years.

Chasing a modest target of 124 runs, India crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for just 93. The hosts suffered a major setback before the chase even began, as captain Shubman Gill was unable to bat after being admitted to hospital.

India’s batting lineup never settled. Washington Sundar top-scored with 31, followed by Axar Patel with 26. Ravindra Jadeja contributed 18, Dhruv Jurel 13, while Rishabh Pant managed only 2. K.L. Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav added a single run each, and Yashasvi Jaiswal fell without scoring.

South Africa’s spin duo and disciplined attack proved decisive. Simon Harmer led the charge with a superb 4-wicket haul, while Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen claimed two wickets apiece. Aiden Markram chipped in with one.

Earlier in the day, South Africa resumed their second innings on 93 for 7 and fought their way to 153, thanks to a gritty unbeaten 55 from captain Temba Bavuma.

For India, Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball, taking four wickets. Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj picked up two each, while Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel claimed one apiece.

South Africa had posted 159 in their first innings after winning the toss, while India responded with 189, taking a 30-run lead. But the advantage wasn’t enough to withstand South Africa’s spirited comeback.

This victory marks a historic moment for the Proteas—their first Test win in India since 2009, ending a 15-year drought
