Amidst the IPL 2024 mini-auctions in Dubai, Australian skipper and World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins shattered the previous records for the highest-paid IPL player after he was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at a price of INR 20.50 crore.

Starting at a base price of 2 crore, Pat Cummins' demand skyrocketed in the IPL auction, eventually landing him a staggering 20.5 crore deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

This record-breaking sum not only shatters England cricketer Sam Curran's previous record of 18.5 crore but also makes Cummins as the most expensive IPL player ever.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore engaged in a nail-biting bidding war for Pat Cummins.

Both teams, determined to secure the fast bowler's services, pushed the price higher and higher.

Finally, SRH successfully claimed Cummins for a record-breaking sum.

Even before his record-breaking deal, Cummins secured hefty sums in the IPL. Back in 2020, Kolkata Knight Riders lavished INR 15.50 crore for the all-rounder.

The World Cup winner attracted bids from four franchises — Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and SRH.

Having already played for IPL franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils from 2014 to 2022, Cummins boasts 379 runs and secured 45 wickets throughout his 42-match career.

Cricket aficionados were left astounded by the mammoth deal secured by the 2023 World Cup-winning captain. One fan, taking to 'X,' wrote, "Pat Cummins can start his own IPL team."
